Sickle Cell Awareness Month
September… A beautiful month. To me the month of September is that of renewal, change, calmness, and happiness. It’s a month that is refreshing because it’s a month to restart. The leaves begin to change colors. The weather begins to cool off from the hot Summer days. A gentle breeze begins to stir the air around you. Children have a fresh start at a new school year, they learn new information, and make new friends. The year is winding down and people tend to relax a bit more. The holidays near and people tend to be more joyful. This is why I love that September is Sickle Cell Awareness Month.…

Butterbeer!
Happy International (butter)Beer Day! Okay, I may be cheating a little here. I don’t drink alcohol, but I do love Butterbeer. I am a huge Harry Potter fan. Butterbeer is a staple drink in the Wizarding World. There is no actual beer in Butterbeer. But you do get a deliciously sweet flavor of butterscotch. It comes served hot or cold. Cold is definitely my preference; because, I like a frothy drink during the summer months. No matter how you have it, Butterbeer is a satisfying drink that makes you feel all warm and fuzzy inside. And even if you’re not a Harry Potter fan, you should seriously make your way…

Be Still
I love to mediate. But meditation doesn’t mean you need anything special, like equipment or music. Meditation can be as simple as sitting quietly or laying down to take a few minutes to yourself. At the end of the day, have you ever come home from a long day of work, or went into another room after dealing with your children, crashed on your bed, the couch, or in a chair, put your hands over your eyes, and took a deep breath? Well, that’s meditating. Have you ever thought “I just need two minutes to myself.” Meditation doesn’t have to be a big chunk of time carved out so that…

My Blood Cells are Shaped like a Cresent Moon
Yes, I have Sickle Cell Anemia. That means my red blood cells are abnormally shaped, which can cause some issues. What is Sickle Cell Anemia? Sickle Cell Anemia is a genetic disease that effects the red blood cells. Red blood cells carry oxygen to your organs and are circular in shape. But when you have sickle cell anemia, your red blood cells are a crescent shape like a sickle. This makes the cells sticky and rigid. They can sometimes interlock. When the cells get stuck in your blood vessel it prevents blood and oxygen from getting to other parts of your body. This can cause a lot of pain and…

Little Flower, Big Flower
This quote is a good reminder that sometimes our struggles make us better and stronger so that we are ready for the amazing outcome ahead. Flowers struggle through strong winds, rain, sometimes snow. But they still remain erect. They are still beautiful and stronger than ever. So please try to remember to keep your head held high during a storm, so that you can soak up the energy from that beautiful sun afterwards. It’ll be worth it.

Hello World!
Welcome to Celestial Cells. In my local medical community I’m known as an anomaly. Anomaly means something or someone who deviates from the norm, they do not fit in with what is expected, they are a rarity. Yes, doctors have actually said this to my face in several ways. The reason why they call me an anomaly is because I have Sickle Cell Anemia AND I am a survivor of Leukemia. So apparently for one person to have had both of these diseases in their lifetime is rare and unheard of. (Although, I don’t fully believe that.) Thankfully I have been in remission from Leukemia for multiple years. However I…
