Be Still
I love to mediate.
But meditation doesn’t mean you need anything special, like equipment or music.
Meditation can be as simple as sitting quietly or laying down to take a few minutes to yourself.
At the end of the day, have you ever come home from a long day of work, or went into another room after dealing with your children, crashed on your bed, the couch, or in a chair, put your hands over your eyes, and took a deep breath?
Well, that’s meditating.
Have you ever thought “I just need two minutes to myself.”
Meditation doesn’t have to be a big chunk of time carved out so that you can get your “Om” on.
Those two minutes to yourself? Those two minutes for quiet and stillness are all you need.
You don’t even need to close your eyes. You don’t need to breath a certain way.
Just breath.
Slow deep breaths will help to relax your mind and body, but regular breathing will also work to calm you and help you to refocus.
You are the only person who truly understands you. You know exactly what you need in a specific situation.
When you are feeling negative emotions (as a result from your health, family, friends, job, world events, etc.) try to focus on your breathing. Thinking about your breath going in and out will help you to clear your mind and not dwell on the negativity.
You are your own sanctuary.
At any time, any where, you can always retreat within, to your inner sanctuary, for a few seconds or a few minutes.
When I’m stressed at work, I take 30 seconds to meditate. For 30 seconds I take a deep breath or two and focus my mind on my breathing.
This always helps me to clear my mind for those 30 seconds to that I can continue with my task at hand.
Whenever you are stressed, overwhelmed, or anxious, just remember to retreat within, to your sanctuary, for a minute or two for some relaxation. You don’t need a special location or any special techniques.
Just simple breathing and focusing on your breath will help you tremendously.
Namaste.
